The 6 coaching models

Situational Leadership

The people you lead are diverse and require different situational leadership. Beginners can be taught, intermediates can be coached, advanced people can be supported and experts should be empowered.

The Double Diamond

The double diamond splits the problem and solution into two diamonds with divergent and convergent thinking each to solve the right problem, build the right thing and build the thing right.

GROW model

The GROW model starts with defining your Goals, understanding your Reality and exploring your Options, before finally defining what you Will do in order to achieve them.

The Trust Equation

Show credibility through experience, transparency and informed questioning. Build reliability by holding to your commitments. Build intimacy by being human and vulnerable. Be aware of your self-interest and actively demonstrate you are there for them.

COIN Method

Giving feedback is a primary tool for personal growth. First discuss the Context, what prompted you to give the feedback? Observation, what actions and behaviours did you see? Impact, describe how these actions tangibly or intangibly affected you or the team. Next Steps, what actions can they take away and consider how to avoid it in the future?

PDCA

With your coachee, help them Plan, by identifying and understanding their challenge. Do, test through the logic of their plan with different examples. Check what results they are expecting. Act, ensure they move forward with their plan and hold them to account against it. Use this model in a cycle to continuously improve outcomes.
